It’s seasonal flu vaccination time once again, but this year the Centers for

Disease Control (CDC) and researchers are advising doctors
to inoculate

patients for typical, Seasonal influenza in September.    It takes time

for Seasonal Flu vaccine to absorb into the system for optimum protection,

so the earlier high-risk patients get vaccinated, the better.

Here is information provided us regarding Swine Flu symptoms and medical attention guidelines.

What to do if you are sick or think you may be infected with the flu

Whether you have regular Seasonal Flu or the H1N1 swine flu, how to take care of the flu is the same. On this page are some of the most important steps for taking care of yourself and protecting others.  For more detailed guidance see the following documents:

When should I see a health care provider?

Most H1N1 swine flu cases have had mild disease similar to regular seasonal flu.  People who are mildly sick do not need to see a doctor or get tested.  If you have any questions or doubts, call our office to ask whether you should be seen.  Testing is limited and is being prioritized for hospitalized individuals with specific symptoms.  Please your doctor's office before going, so that we can make special arrangements for your arrival.

In general, the flu is worse than the common cold.  Colds are usually milder than the flu.

How is the flu spread?

Flu spreads through tiny or invisible wet drops produced when a sick person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These drops can travel short distances. A person without the flu can be infected by breathing in these wet drops or by touching something that was recently contaminated and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes. Someone who has the flu can infect others 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 7 days after they become sick.  However, people are most contagious during the first 3 days of illness.
